What is SOPA? Is it some sort of soap aimed specifically at dyslexics? Perhaps its a spending plan where the government taxes you up the wazoo. No, in reality SOPA is the "Stop Online Piracy Act" and its basically a way for the government to censor the creativity out of us.
I don't know about you, but my favorite thing to do on the internet is watch videos. I watch a LOT of videos. I can watch videos for hours a day. I like to watch videos at home when I'm all alone, or sometimes I'm bad and I sneak watching some videos at work. If SOPA were passed, hundreds, perhaps thousands of hours of videos could be censored or removed entirely from the internet.
Provisions of SOPA say that the government can choose to ban any website based on any kind of copyright infringement. This means that if you had a picture of any kind of a model playing with dogs the entire website could be banned because the model's image is technically copyrighted. You can't even put up a picture of a girl eating a huge bannana and choking on it because it could have a logo on it!
I honestly shudder to think what will happen to the internet when we forget its roots. Remember, the internet was made so we could all get info for free and without that, there's really no purpose to having the internet at all. Its one thing when you can't post your own video because it has liscenced music in the background, but its totally another thing when a website gets entirely blocked for having ANY music on it.
People around the world rely on the web for a living. If SOPA passes, the entire industry could collapse. I am begging you, please send a letter to your congressman to help stop SOPA. With your help we can keep bouncing dogs, intense dramas, and hardcore gamers on the internet without fear of the Government fucking everything up.
